Meeting the challenges

Building our Children’s Tomorrow

As a team the next school board will need to work together to confront the following three major challenges.

Budget

The budget will be greatest challenge to the district in the coming years. Predictability of funding in public education is becoming more and more problematic.

  • Belt tightening must in no way jeopardize the quality of the classroom education

  • We must work collaboratively with the Schools Foundation to preserve our support specialists and music/art/STEM programming

Balancing quality of classroom instruction with support services will be the “secret sauce” required to confront our budget challenges.

Academic Rigor/Career Readiness

I am committed to the continuous improvement of this treasured school district, keeping it on the cutting edge of education needs.

  • Each child has their own academic path, and we must support each student so they can fully perform to their ability

  • We must strive to be the best in academic preparation so that all students are on a ready to work track, in whatever field they choose.

The education we offer should not be a one size fits all. We must prioritize the excellence and rigor of many academic programs so our students are competitive in today’s economy.

Kasey for LO Schools

Facing Enrollment Declines

LO parents have choices in their children’s education, and we must evaluate what makes them choose to send their kids to other schools.

  • Foresight and a commitment to continue to improve our academic outcomes must be the school boards long term goals

  • Working with City leaders we will need to focus on attracting more young families and their children into our community, so that shrinking enrollment does not put even more pressure on budgets

I look forward to bringing big picture focus and pragmatic approaches to our financial planning and budgets, so we prepare our students to be successful in an ever-changing world. Communicating our schools academic progress and building on their reputation as the “crown jewels” in our community will bring young families into our school district.
